The Clubhouse has been lovingly restored for residents and guests. An historical gem roughened by age and weather, The Sanctuary Clubhouse at Key Largo was built in the 1920's. The old Dade County pine building, along with its adjacent native coral stone cookhouse (see photo below), served as crew quarters for the Flagler Railroad, according to local sources. Later, the Clubhouse and cookhouse were frequent hosts to both bootleggers and gamblers. In the 1940's, a fishing camp was established by the Lewellen family of Caterpillar Tractor.
